🥛 Starbucks Decline, Goodmylk Revolution, and the Rise of Luckin’ Coffee—Is the Beverage World Changing?
As Starbucks sales slip and new contenders rise, the coffee industry is on the edge of a transformation—let’s explore the shifts, innovations, and a new contender from China making waves.
Drought
There is a lot of talk about SBUX and their decline recently. Anywhere you turn, in the beverage world, that’s what everyone is talking about.
It’s no secret that SBUX has seen a decline in same store sales this year. There is a 2-6% decline depending on the quarter you look at.
This is happening in small cafe’s too, you just don’t read it about for obvious reasons 🙂
In my opinion, we are on the verge of a renaissance in the beverage world. If you’re dialed in, you already see it happening.
New product types everywhere. New customer experiences. A collective disdain for mass production unless you have no other options 😉
The market is primed and ready for innovation and I for one am excited to see it.
Have you noticed anything new at your local coffee shop? Something that wasn’t there 5 years ago or even 1 year ago?
Abundance
One of my favorite past times is diving into new CPG products. I’m not an influencer and certainly not popular enough for people to send me things so I have to find them on my own. I appreciate the journey but it can be a bit cumbersome at times.
One brand that I was introduced to a few months ago and have just become infatuated with is Goodmylk.
Goodmylk has been around for a few years and started off with a lot of different SKU’s but now they are focused on just 2.
They’ve pioneered and developed a proprietary process for a powdered Almond mylk and powdered Oat mylk.
What’s significant about these products are:
practically eliminated waste by removing the carton
no seed oils = no inflammation which is a good thing
organic
no process sugars
no gums
This is a revolutionary product for the coffee shop world and honestly for the home as well, but that part of their business is still TBD.
Indulgence
Will there be a changing of the guard? Luckin’ Coffee is coming to the USA according to anonymous sources reported by the Financial Times.
If you’re not familiar, Luckin’ Coffee has dominated Starbucks in China and when it comes to the USA, you can be certain that they will have their eyes set on dethroning them by undercutting their prices.
Their latte’s sell for $2-$3 compared to $5+ at pretty much every other coffee shop.
I’m not worried about them but I’m sure the mermaid is.
